Tutorial: Vision URLs |
In this tutorial we will examine the Vision URL Maintenance screen in great detail. This screen is important because it controls what is displayed on each of your Vision terminals, the durations of each item displayed and the order in which items are displayed. Vision terminals can be used to display advertisements, menu boards and / or external websites. Vision Groups can be used to limit when the items being displayed are eligible to be displayed.
If the Portal's Navigation Menu is not already in the Vision Menu, start by navigating to the Vision menu by clicking the Menus link followed by Vision. Open Vision Maintenance by clicking on the link and a drop-down list of menu items will be displayed. A link is provided to allow you to open the Company Options for the Vision system. Click on Edit Vision URLs to open the Vision URL Maintenance screen.
The Vision URL Maintenance screen lists each site's Vision terminals' display items in order. Items such as advertisements and menu boards can be added to a Vision terminal's display list easily by using the Add URL buttons as described in the previous tutorials. Other URL's (such as external web pages) can be added in the Vision URL Maintenance screen by pressing the New button and entering the details in the following columns:
Terminal: ensure that the terminal is the one that you want the URL displayed at.
URL: enter the URL here.
Group: select a Vision Group to determine when the URL should be displayed.
Duration (Seconds): enter the length of time that the URL should be displayed for.
List Order: enter a number to represent when the URL should be displayed where 1 is the first URL displayed, 2 is second and so on.
Enabled: enter yes to enable the URL and no to disable it.
Description: enter a name for the URL so you can remember what the URL is easily.
This screen can also be used to edit the existing URLs displayed at a terminal by overwriting the details in the above columns. For example, you can change the length of time that an advertisement is displayed for by overwriting its Duration field. You can also delete URLs from the terminal by pressing the Delete button, but it is often better to disable the URL instead so that you can use it again at a later date without having to re-add it to the terminal. Don't forget to commit the changes to the Portal when you have finished editing the URLs for your terminals by pressing the Update button.
In this tutorial we have discovered how easy it is to maintain the Vision terminals. We have shown how to add advertisements and menu boards to a terminal and described how to change the display order. It is even possible to display a website by entering a web address in the URL column!
