Vision Groups are used by the Portal to decide when advertisements and menu boards are active. They operate like a time switch, switching Vision items on when the start time has been reached and off when the end time is reached. Groups allow you to run different series of advertisements at different times of the day, or a special set of advertisements on a particular day. This tutorial will describe how to create a new Vision Group and in the Vision URLs tutorial we will discuss how to assign the groups to your Vision display items.

If the Portal's Navigation Menu is not already in the Vision Menu, start by navigating to the Vision menu by clicking the Menus link followed by Vision. Open Vision Maintenance by clicking on the link and a drop-down list of menu items will be displayed. A link is provided to allow you to open the Company Options for the Vision system. Click on Vision Groups to open the Vision Groups Report screen.

To create a new Vision Group, press the Create New Group link. This will open the Vision Group Maintenance screen. Enter a name for the group in the Description field. The Start Date and End Date fields specify the date range when the group will be activated. You can also specify the Month if you wish to limit the group to be active in a single month only. Decide whether the group should be triggered on a day of the month or week and select the day. The Start Time and End Time fields are the hours at which the group is triggered in 24-hour format (that is a 2 means 2 am and a 14 means 2 pm). A master switch sets whether the group is currently Enabled. The Exclusive field can be used for items in a group to be shown exclusively when the group is triggered. A Comments field exists to provide additional miscellaneous information for the group. Press the Save button to commit the new group to the Portal.

In this tutorial we have investigated the maintenance of your Vision Groups. Later in this series of tutorials we will discover how groups are used to determine the advertisements and menu boards that are displayed at a Vision terminal at different times.
